HVCcompostering - HVC Groep
We have two modern, closed composting facilities, one in Purmerend and the other in Middenmeer. Both perform an important regional function in terms of the provincial authority’s waste policy, in which composting of organic waste has a high priority.
Each year, the composting facility in Purmerend produces approximately 30,000 tonnes of organic compost from 90,000 tonnes of organic waste. The facility in Middenmeer processes approximately 60,000 tonnes of organic waste to produce roughly 20,000 tonnes of compost.
In the composting facilities, bacteria take approximately 6 weeks to convert organic waste into compost. This is done in closed halls through the addition of oxygen and water. Compost is an excellent soil improver. It ensures an even distribution of water, air and nutrients in the soil. Good soil structure promotes plant development.
Certification
Both facilities obtained certification to the ISO 9001 standard in January 2007. On November 6, 2007, HVCcompostering also acquired product certification from the Dutch Waste Management Association (Vereniging Afvalbedrijven, VA).
