MeerWarmte - HVC Groep
MeerWarmte distributes a large proportion of the heat from the waste-to-energy plant in Alkmaar to buildings at the Boekelermeer business estate and football club AZ football stadium in Alkmaar.
This heat is generated without having to burn natural gas in a central heating boiler, which would release the greenhouse gas carbon dioxide. Another big advantage is that the heat does not disappear into the air or the surface water.
38,000 solar panels
Connecting all the buildings of the football club to the heat distribution network produces the same reduction in carbon dioxide emissions as if more than 38,000 solar panels were used. That is roughly 10 football pitches full of solar panels.
4,600 cars
If MeerWarmte were to heat the entire Boekelermeer in the future, that would mean a reduction of approximately 9 million kilograms of carbon dioxide emissions a year, the same quantity as in the exhaust fumes from 4,600 motor cars, an annual saving of approximately 5 million cubic metres of natural gas. Enough to fill a queue of trucks all the way from Alkmaar to Paris.
