Growth - HVC Groep
In its desire to be active throughout the waste chain, HVC has acquired various companies over the years.
Thus, on December 31, 2001, HVC became the owner of composting company Purva BV in Purmerend. Purva was renamed HVCcompostering in 2006.
On December 15, 2003, the Board of "Centraal Afvalverwijderingsbedrijf Westfriesland" (CAW) agreed to sell the company to HVC. CAW continued its operations under the name HollandCollect NV. HollandCollect and HVC had already worked together for some time in the field of composting and recycling. We believed that significant benefits of scale and efficiency could be achieved by better coordination of the collection, treatment and recycling, transfer and transport and disposal of waste.
In 2001, we had applied this approach in the province of Flevoland by incorporating Flevocollect, a joint-venture between HVC and Dusseldorp. Flevocollect has been a wholly owned subsidiary of HVC since January 1, 2006, carrying out waste collection and other municipal purification tasks in several municipalities in Flevoland. It was our aim to start a similar company in North Holland. The acquisition of CAW provided us with the expertise and means to achieve this.
On December 17, 2003, HVC reached agreement with "NV Afvalzorg Holding" on the takeover of its activities in Halfweg. This was a valuable addition to our recycling operations. At the end of May 2005, we incorporated our recycling activities in Sortiva, which we own together with GP Groot.
In December 2005, we acquired "Gevudo Afvalverwerking NV" in Dordrecht. On September 11, 2006, Gevudo was renamed HVCafvalcentrale Dordrecht in order to make it clear that Gevudo is part of HVC.
HVC also works together with Fenix Recycling BV in the recycling firm VOF Cyclas. Cyclas sees to the sale of the residues that are released when waste is incinerated, such as bottom ash and metals.
MeerWarmte is a joint venture between HVC and Nuon Warmte. It distributes a large part of the heat from the waste-to-energy plant in Alkmaar through a special piped network to buildings on the Boekelermeer business estate and to football club AZ’s DSB Stadium.
On April 6, 2007, HVC signed a contract with the municipalities of Velsen, Heemskerk and Beverwijk concerning the acquisition of ReinUnie. The acquisition represents an important expansion of our waste collection operations. ReinUnie and HVC both strive to achieve environmentally responsible waste management and believe that integrated management of the waste chain is essential to achieve this aim. The activities of ReinUnie and HVC are complementary and the joint venture is intended to produce greater efficiency.
Most recently, on May 8, 2007, HVC took over the municipal joint venture "Afvalinzameldienst Gewest Kop van Noord-Holland" (AID). Its staff and facilities were incorporated in our subsidiary HollandCollect. AID and HollandCollect already worked together on a regular basis. The negotiations were conducted in a cooperative atmosphere, as evidenced by the short period of time needed to reach agreement.
