"Flowing" lines.
Contrasting colours.

Architecture - HVC Groep

HVC’s buildings were designed by the architecture firm of Bonnema Architecten in Hurdegaryp (Hardegarijp).

The "flowing" lines fit perfectly in our Dutch polder landscape. Signature roofing panels conceal piping and other less attractive design features. The curves above the bunker and the incinerator point in the direction of the weighbridge. Those above the flue gas purifier point towards the chimney (photo right). This creates a visual separation between the various parts of the plant, without compromising the design of the building.

Colour
In the same way as bulb fields form a contrast with the surrounding countryside, HVC’s complex forms a contrast with the surrounding land. The exterior is finished in red, silver and black: red symbolizing fire, silver the air and black the earth. Dark silver grey expresses the transition from earth to sky. Colour has meaning inside too. In the buildings where waste is burnt the doors and balustrades are red (for fire). Blue has been used in the flue gas purifier. And many pipes have a colour, too: yellow (gas), purple (chemicals), grey (steam) and blue (air).
