History - HVC Groep
HVC began life on April 10, 1991 as “NV Huisvuilcentrale N-H”. The company was set up to enable construction of a new waste incinerator.
With the closure of the old incinerator in Zaandam, which was no longer able to meet stricter emission requirements, additional incinerator capacity was needed in northern North Holland. And even more stringent environmental requirements were to be introduced.
Turbulent period
Until the end of 1995, HVC continued to operate the existing incinerator of “Openbaar Lichaam Vuilverbrandingsinstallatie Alkmaar e.o.” (OL VVI). At the same time preparations were made for construction of the new incinerator on Boekelermeer business estate in Alkmaar. After a turbulent period the first pile was driven on February 4, 1993, and the new building was officially opened on September 26, 1996.
Trade name
Since March 2006, NV Huisvuilcentrale N-H has simply been known as "HVC". This abbreviation was already in common use to refer to the company informally. As HVC does a lot more than just incinerate household waste, and is also active outside North Holland, it was decided to adopt HVC as our trade name. For legal purposes, we are still officially "NV Huisvuilcentrale N-H".
